A Polymer End-Tethered to a Potential Stripe: A Simple Example of an Escape Transition
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the problem of a single ideal polymer chain tethered to a surface at the midpoint of a repulsive potential stripe. If the potential is very weak, the chain remains unperturbed. However, as the potential is increased, the chain conformation undergoes a sudden change. The chain forms a tether to the edge of the stripe and moves most of the monomers off to the region of lower potential. This is a simple example of an escape transition previously discussed for compression of polymer chains. We show how these two systems are analogous and clear up some controversy regarding the exact form of the force versus height curve for the compressive system.

Westudy the problem of an isolated end-grafted polymer chain confined under a finite-sized flat obstacle in a Θ solvent. For obstacles that are not too large this chain can undergo an escape transition where part of the chain remains trapped and the remainder escapes from under the obstacle. The spinodals of this system are influenced by the presence of a three-body term. We also study the prob...
متن کاملPolymer brushes on periodically nanopatterned surfaces.
Structural properties of polymer brushes tethered on a periodically nanopatterned substrate are investigated by computer simulations. The substrate consists of an alternating succession of two different types of equal-width parallel stripes, and the polymers are end-tethered selectively on every second stripe. Three distinct morphologies of the nanopatterned brush have been identified, and thei...

In present study, dynamic modeling and control of a tethered space robot system in trajectory tracking of its end effector is investigated. Considering variation of the tether length in the model, dynamics of the system is modeled using Lagrange’s method. Librational motion of the tether is controlled by adjusting the tether length similar to conventional manipulators, control of the robot...

متن کاملPolymer escape from a confining potential.
The rate of escape of polymers from a two-dimensionally confining potential well has been evaluated using self-avoiding as well as ideal chain representations of varying length, up to 80 beads. Long timescale Langevin trajectories were calculated using the path integral hyperdynamics method to evaluate the escape rate. A minimum is found in the rate for self-avoiding polymers of intermediate le...
